The system isn't final. This thread was made for discussion of possible issues. One of the suggestions that may prevent this from happening is:

USABxBOOYO wrote:If you can change your name easily, then that defeats the purpose of a registration system as people will still be able to impersonate. Not to mention it will totally shoot down the idea of banning by nickname. If you can ban by nickname AND IP, bans would be much more difficult to evade.

As I said in my post, everyone could have an ID number that doesn't change and a changeable nickname. You could ban this ID and check for aliases just as you do for IP.

>/ID zinger
KomradeZinger's ID is 204039584.
>/Alias zinger
Known aliases of KomradeZinger are: Kirk, Zinger, THE_REAL_ATHEIST.
>/banID 204039584
KomradeZinger banned.

OR

>/ban zinger
KomradeZinger (ID 204039584) banned.

Gorman wrote:Yeah, because it is so hard to evade a ban on the forums! You just make another account, that takes like 10 seconds. I wouldn't say that is more difficult than getting a new IP, but it certainly will give admins a false sense of security!

Have to agree with you on that.

Eh, its subjective. If more people love them, then add it, sadly.
To a Physicist, white and black is the presence and absence of color.
To a Fine Artist, white and black are just shades and tints of color.
To a Painter, any paint that you could get into a can is a color.
THIS color, on the other hand, is #b4d455.

The only problem with this would be that user names come on a first serve first come basis :/, And I've seen loads of other Frosty's (Got to spell it like that) In game :|.

Considering that, maybe Ben would be as kind as to do a pre-releace for dedicated members of the community such as yourselfs so we all get our names or just link it in with the already exsisting fourum accounts

I remember that I tried to get a friend into a multiplayer game, and he stopped trying because every name he tried was taken. He even tried stupid names like doorknob and slideydoor. Those names were taken too. Other than that, I fully support this idea.

It would also make it easier to recruit players. I have lost count of the times I have seen really good players, tried to recruit them, then had to give up because they hadn't a forum account. It really is too hard to get a person without a forum account to make one. This is because people who don't have forum accounts and just play ingame are not usually active on forums.

+1 for this idea, although the name thing is a major con.

One more thing, I noticed today BOOYO got a new avatar. I'm sad, cos I'm so used to looking at BOOYO's old boss wolf avatar. Why, BOOYO, WHYYYYYYYYYY?

Yes, I am familiar with how the suggestion forum works.

Sorry Para, but you can't throw that point up, this is not design by democracy!

Hehheh, lets throw democracy out the window and embrace......... TOTAL ANARCHY!

P.S. Yes I know thats the name of a clan.
P.P.S. I probably wouldn't like achievements either. In the end, some guy who just joined gets flamed for not having an achievement that an MLG Pro has.

We can have games that require a registration that is at least 24 hours old. If someone really want to spam accounts to screw games, he will, but registration could lower the number of random griefers a little.

And anyways, trustworthy players will be easier to find with having registration - a 1 hour old account is suspicious, a month old account with no ban history is a guarantee for no griefing.

Achievements are crap, but statistics on activity (joining games), number of votekicks, and bans could be useful for filtering filth. AoS community isn't that big, if we have 200+ trustworthy guys here then we can have a good game anytime.

AoS promotes socialism?

I think it would be a bad idea because I hate having to sign in first of all. I like to jump right in. Second, If we do that eventually stats will come, which will promote more cheaters. Our kick system works fine, If he comes back in with a new name kick him when he does it again. Thirdly, I like being able to change my name at my leisure.

Votekick doesn't work. Most of the random people on a server dont give a shit about hackers.

We are here because the Universe offers conditions so life can evolve,to the point where(at least one)species,in a small planet around a star lost between millions of galaxies,is able to ask itself:What was my origin? (M. Gleiser)
