Why is the shotgun so underrated?

I use it personally and I managed to take out a hole squad of 4.
Why is it so underrated?

I don't know, I for one think it works well in close quarters (just like a shotgun should). Sometimes I wonder if people are confusing shotguns for long-ranged weapons.

It is completely random. Sometimes it will take 3 shots to kill a guy from 10 blocks, and sometimes it takes only 1 shot to kill someone 50 blocks away.

Okay, you have a fair point there.

Agreed with Chaos, it's a tad bit unrealiable. It sometimes doesn't fill the close-range role.

I don't know.
When I use it it is completely reliable.
Maybe it comes down to personal preference?
The way I see it is " You either rock at it or suck at it. "

I find that it works in some maps. You need to be able to tunnel for the shotgun to be effective. I wish the shotgun was slightly more effective at medium ranges. If this was the case I would use the shotgun more often. But it is not. I am getting good enough at the rifle where it is just as good as the shotgun in some close quarter situations.

I think most people just don't know how to use it.

Shotgun is only good is arena mode. Nothing else.

And even there, most of the time, SMG beats it.

Shotgun is rather situational, in addition to its relative unreliability. It has the power to kill two people will one shot, but will just as often fail to kill in close combat, where its supposed to excel. I personally only use it, but its not much a surprise to see not many others, especially when you can just nuke everything with the smg.

Yeah, because apparently 4~8 blocks is long range. Always funny to see shotgun hit you 3 times from that distance and fail to get the kill. It's even funnier when out of nowhere from a good 65+ blocks away the shotgun will one hit kill people.

The only reason I don't use it is because I don't like shotguns in general

it's alright, it is probably a bit better than when the shotgun was first added, especially now that there is sprint added to the game. I don't play very often anymore, but when I used to play more often, I would try to run/sneak to the closer ranges with the shotgun, then shoot at people. it would probably be even easier with sprint now, and that there would be more people sprinting around while you are about to ambush them

I guess people do not think it's very good, because the SMG and semi are both very long ranged in this game, so a lot of combat is not too close, and using shotguns when the damage drop off is so extreme usually requires a different mindset
