Overpowered SMG

Postby FaZe » Thu Mar 29, 2012 11:58 pm

Just played aloha free for all, and got 200 kills in about 20 minutes. (Check the logs or whatever if you want.) Here's a pic: http://imgur.com/NyGDd

Afterwards, I experimented with the gun, and from what I found, it's the only weapon with reduced recoil when crouching, and it has zero kick until you fire 7 shots. What does this mean? The SMG is pretty much a laser beam when crouching and firing in bursts. Now that the rifle has had its accuracy nerfed, in my opinion the SMG is the best gun in the game, because it's definitely adequate at long range, flawless for medium range, and beats the shotgun at close range.

PS; I too was one of the guys who hated ppl who complained about gun balance, but this is actually an issue.

Nothing exactly new in here.

I wish I had the same SMG as you then. Mine still kicks, even when crouching, for every shot.
As far as I'm aware, the only new things since .70 are its accuracy model and tweaked up body and limb damage.
I'm not denying that the SMG is a bit too powerful now compared to the other weapons, but making false claims is a disservice to everyone.

Go and try it out for yourself, right now.

To ask me to try it out is assuming I haven't used it since the update on several occasions.
I've used the SMG enough to know that crouching is not a magical 'remove all recoil' button. It is minimal but it is still there, even if you tap fire individual bullets.
If you can place your crosshair on a pixel in the horizon and fire seven times without your hand on the mouse compensating the recoil, and still have your crosshair on that pixel, then I really want a copy of your game.
And if this is not what your OP is trying to state to be possible, then I do not understand your OP.

"Zero" is a figure of speech. Recoil is extremely minimal when using these techniques.

I can't refute that. But I don't think the recoil was changed in the update. The .75 damage tweaks and center-weighted accuracy model had to have brought it over the top.
The low recoil in .70 was not quite as amazing because the bullets weren't so likely to land in the center of the crosshair when firing the SMG, like now.
I have used the SMG quite heavily even before .70 when it got its first buff, so I've really noticed the changes each patch. Kind of like the perspective of all the people who used the rifle since the game first came out, I imagine.
Right now I lean toward using the rifle for the challenge of it, though.

I agree. Doesn't say anywhere about a SMG buff, but it sure seems like it.

I am pretty sure it says that it was tweaked a little bit, there was a small amount of time that it said a buff in a preliminary change log or something. I do not think it's really that overpowered, maybe it could use less bullets or a little bit more recoil or something, but it is alright I guess

I really wish the change log had more specificity. Minor improvements is just so unhelpful.
I mean, 'minor improvements' for the shotgun basically meant neutering its usefulness outside of maybe 1 in 100 combat situations. Specific examples, like 'increased damage' or 'decreased recoil', would be much more meaningful.

The SMG is NOT the only weapon effected by crouch. Rifles have less recoil when crouching. SMG's already have as less ammo as it needs. I tried an SMG and I ran out of ammo pretty quickly. Not a fan of SMG'S but they're pretty useful at some cases. If you compare, you basicly get as many kills mid-ranged with a SMG as you do with a rifle.

Edit: And from what you showed in the picture proved nothing!¡ The other guys had 200+ kills. How do we know nobody was a newb who just started playing¿¡

Ohhh, I never realized the rifle has reduced recoil when crouching, cuz it's single shot and the recoil resets after each shot.
