You basically just said "its not useful but the staff can clean up anything bad so there is no downside". I hope I don't need to explain why this is a horrible way to think.

A quick protip from the management: Everyone should be able to see that exclamation mark button in messages posted on these forums. Clicking that opens a dialog to report the post to us.

We actually look at them. Really, we do.

Explain, or are you just saying you don't trust admins. I'm trying to understand your reasoning beyond face value because you don't seem to understand mine.

More like a primitive version of what mikuli just said... Not staff really, just more like staff recognized respected members (aka Mods). Not sure what you're getting at, I can't read your mind.

I don't trust anyone, but that is besides the point. Why are you giving people ingame advantages based on how much their friends spammed the rep button on the forums?

Mods aren't considered staff here?

Anyway that train of logic is bad because you are just adding features because "why not", which is meaningless. Especially if you admit that it will have bad consequences, essentially all you are doing is creating work for the staff for 0 perceivable benefit.

Actually it's just I haven't seen any, then again, I havn't looked that hard.

This Idea is for these guys over here:
viewtopic.php?f=63&t=819
From my experience avoiding that^ is beneficial.
....

So Regulation then?

How about a combination of both systems? "Thanks" and "Rep".

- Use "thanks" to enable people to give rep after x many of thank you's given to them. (Hopefully reducing the number of spammers) - Countered by the Search function for the Mods who can delete the post to erease the abuser, not to mention a "Worthless" button to derate the post manually.

How about we implement it first, see whos actually trying to use it correctly, then move to have it be regulated by those same people who are using it correctly.

In Theory, if Admins could set rep on the forums (their own too), they would have more pull in-game. On the other hand this is starting to tie into more advanced account systems which might be beyond this game entirely.

A nice pipe dream no?

Still not a fan. Forum doesn't need to be so complex.

We have ya know, actual reputation and actual thanks.

I'd like something like a user-voting system for posts, kind of like reddit karma. We can up/downvote posts.

Why would you like that? It works great on reddit since the whole point of the site is to find good content, but what would be the purpose of it here?

The same reason why any forum has a karma/reputation/rate up-down system: user entertainment. It gives people reason to come back.

This forum is not about entertainment, and if you want that just go chill in The Lounge.

Another useless counter like posts or join date is just that - useless.

Right, it's about a video game. Sorry, I forgot those two were mutually exclusive.

I only support this if my 9000 reputation from the old forum carries over to this one.

I pretty much agree with Gorman. With no rep system, users can actually make an attempt to build upon a conversation or idea if they like it.
