0.8x, What next?

For all things AoS!

0.8x, What next?

Postby tunaspirit » Mon Mar 19, 2012 3:19 pm

Ever since the 0.75 update, massive rants been going on about how shitty the update is, but that fades away over a month.
Like always.
Now it would be a good time to speculate about what will be changed/added/removed/balanced/overpowered in the next update.
NOT RIDICULOUS THINGS LIKE:

We can't help that Ace of Spades is turning more into a Battlefield+Minecraft mix (and a tiny bit of Counter-Strike)
WHEEEE MASSIVE MAPS
SQUADS
SPRINTING
SPRINTING WHILE RELOADING
BUILDING EVERYWHERE
GRIEFER EVERYWHERE
GUNS
IRONSIGHTS
THE ONLY THINGS THAT SEPERATES BF FROM AOS IS:
VEHICLES
SLOW HEALTH REGEN
MORE TACTICAL GAMEPLAY
CUSTOMAZIBILITEH
CLASSES
MEDICKS
RPG
GRAPHICS

(all under THE ONLY THING THAT SEPERATES BF FROM AOS IS: should not be added)

Stuff like sidearms and muzzle flash wouldn't be too crazy.
Although I'm really hoping for a VOXED map editor which is more suitable for AoS, which means you can set zones where everything spawns, where can't be built or destroyed etc.

I wouldn't mind 0.8 being the update which instead of adding new features goes thoroughly over the current game fixing all the problems and smoothing over the rough edges of the game. Maybe that would be 0.79 however.

Increased ability to remove griefers: This really needs thinking about. Although there is votekicking, it doesn't work very well at all. Most of the time on a full server, only 4-5 people will /y a votekick, with most simply ignoring it, or at worst, not voting because it is helping their team.
Solutions:
Lower number of votes needed in relation to player numbers on own team being votekicked.
Players who have been on the server for over x amount of time or have over x kills need less votes for their votekicks.
Stronger player-made blocks, especially own teams blocks. (has been suggested elsewhere)

Game polish: Simply getting rid of some of the rough edges around the game which are obvious to most on first playing, readying the game for the full release.
Solutions:
Getting rid of the ability to see tent/intel through blocks.
Making tent/intel more substantial, instead of a single block item. It always feels a bit of an oversight when you have to be on an exact spot to capture intel.
Getting rid of invincible blocks.
Textures/graphical improvements, but toggle-able as to keep the game playable on most machines.

We have got OpenGL for that.
Yea see intel/cp through blocks is annoying. Makes burring intel underground is complelety useless.
Also please, fix the bugs.

It's a buff of "Make the shotgun useless so people can fight back when ambushed in a tunnel" kind.

Seriously...
Ben still said they want sidearms and artilerry for 1.0 (confirmed in-game, 0.75 release candidate 10)

But we will see...
Customization...Not that I want it, but if it WOULD go in, I'd prefer BF-esque customization rather than that CoD sh!t...Increased ROF? Dual wield? That thing that shows life in a given area? COME ON, CoD, get real...

Fix the fucking netcode and get rid of the rubberbanding/teleporting. We've been asking for this for about 3 updates now (except it's actually gotten worse in 0.75).

i dont think, that next update should go mad about adding new features. from what i have seen so far, the weapons balance seems tipped now. devs should fix that
i would really like to see the netcode improved even further, as there already was a visible difference between .75 and .7 yay, dialup ftw.
i think, that it is way too early for features like customization and vehicles, but i would like the stick to edge while walking feature, when you dont fall off blocks when holding walk key, good for building bridges.
i would also like if you actually reloaded clips, not bullets, e.g. you discard bullets in current clip by reloading.
maybe enemies could leave supply packs on death, you would get about 10 hp by walking one over and a clip for your gun. this would demotivate sniping/camping.
grenades could have larger blast radius.
ui could be improved by making the minimap larger, tracers actually leave a visible trace which fade with time (on minimap, of course)
maybe some bugfixes too.
what i DREAM of having is a grappling hook. :P

also, ability to have a dedicated map editing mode ingame (a la my mod) would be awesome.

btw, about the thing with seeing intel through blocks...
what if we didnt? we would still be able to find it by map marker?
shouldnt we actually search for it?
e.g. if only the map square would be highlighted, or larger radius visible.
maybe destroying blocks upon which intel rests should be 2 times harder than normal ones, imho this would solve the problem with ppl digging intel instead of making defensive structures. maybe even sprinting disabled for carrier, just so we have the time to scout the sector...

another thing regarding intel, shouldnt it rest in the middle of the block? also, couldnt it be partly transparent when close to it, for placing blocks?

hmm, maybe it shouldnt put snipers in disadvantage, but rather give the front line guys a fighting chance?
not everyone can get those streaks for healing, and being stuck with 5 hp sucks...
still no?

I would personally like an AoS application, where you can run the program and choose servers from there, instead of individually clicking each one on the website. In my opinion, a much more attractive and simple interface that will likely appeal to a larger audience.

Another idea is a friend system within the application mentioned above. You would have a fixed username, and you could invite ppl to your game. Yes, this is similar to CoD, but every single other big game has, once again, a user friendly system.

What about Med Kits /Ammo packs?
They would allow the front line soldier to heal or resuply itself if it needs to,encourages teamwork, and doesnt make the snipers suffer.

I think that is in the Opengl version.

FYI, the votekick time/percentage can be set in pyspades.
