How about simply a separate score for captures? Might make people realise that capturing is the aim.

Perhaps we're looking at this from the wrong angle.
Instead of looking at what we can do to get aos popular again, let's look at what got it popular in the first place.
Vetrans who started playing during the very first few releases, share your story on how you found aos.

Alright, I'll start. Like I've said before, I first heard about AoS from an article in PC Gamer. It looked pretty sweet, not too fancy and since it was entirely free, I figured I had nothing to lose by giving it a shot. I can't emphasize entirely enough because, like I said, I'm sick and tired of the countless games that claim to be free but make you pay for advanced features. In the worst cases, the free versions of those games are not worth playing at all. AoS, however, was free all the way. I understand that Ben puts a lot of work into the game and a guy's gotta make a living. I wouldn't mind a few ads here and there, but come on, giving the players with more figures on their paychecks the advantage just sucks. But I digress. As I was saying, the best thing that can be done to AoS is just to keep it simple. Don't make it too complicated or try to make it look prettier. Just stick to the good old-fashioned blocks, spades and rifles.

The main thing that got me and A LOT of people was a FPS with fully destructible and construct-able terrain. It was also relatively simple, which may have been appealing to some. However I know for a fact lots of people would have liked Artillery and some other common military things like machine guns.

Ya know what would help is a different game mode like zombies and people go on and play just like black ops also a side arm like a pistol. It may sound a lot like Cod but it's what made those games popular. Also babel is a great idea cuz those maps are just fun.

I think that more frequent updates are needed. Each update doesn't have to be huge, either. I remember when in the early days of AoS, there was an update about once a week. Usually there was only one change, but that one change made the game new and exciting to play again.

This may sound insane but get Notch to create a contract where if Ben helps Notch, Notch will help him (my sound insane) and Ben give Notch credit for the game. It probably sounds insane if he were lucky it could be possible. Also one way that might happen is if AoS gets REALLY popular that people are playing AoS more than minecraft which is what we are looking to get.

First I think there should be more game modes.

Maybe more guns and a sidearm like a pistol.

Zombies mode. It's what made black ops popular because some people are not allowed to shoot people so they will use it as an alternate.

Blood option: some people are not allowed to play games that are first person and have blood.

Better servers and more hack detectors.

This may help in exspansion of AoS.

I was just coming off of my long addiction to minecraft, and this game looked appealing to me. I want to point out that a video only has to be good enough to get someone to try it out. The game itself determines how long someone will stay. The biggest reason that I loved the game was the atmosphere.

Seeing as gen maps are huge, Servers usually felt empty, especially when you compare to maps like pinpoint. People talk about a lack of teamwork now, but back then there was a lot of lone-wolf-ing as well. It was very quiet, which made things tense. Gunfights were rare, and the change from footsteps to grenades and gunshots was pretty awesome.

At the same time, I was a noob back then. I remember the sensitivity being really high, so killing others was much harder. In gen maps you could spot people from far away, so more than half of all gunfights were long range. So Noob + High sensitivity + Gen maps = Feeling awesome when you kill someone. Now, all three of those things are gone (at least for me).

But, I still play this game because it does a lot of good things. I think that this game today can still get people interested.

TL;DR: Atmosphere in early versions hooked me, That stuff is gone but AoS is still one of my favorite games

About intel capture rewards, yeah I don't know why Ben removed the enemy reveal on the map. It really took away the incentive to capture the intel.

You do realize that the "big game review" companies like IGN give better reviews the more money is thrown at them, right? Just discuss the game anywhere where indie games are appropriate and you'll be doing your part to bring new players in.
