Intellectual exercise 1: Slavery reinstated

Postby Gorman » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:16 am

Intellectual exercise is a series of threads in which we brainstorm the possible ramifications of certain things, from zombie apocalypse to the Xbox live system crashing permanently, a new scenario will be discussed every week!

This week we are going to discuss the result of an international agreement between practically all the nations of the world to allow humans to be considered property like anything else. It still remains illegal to kidnap people or simply force them to be your slaves, legal methods of acquiring a slave include:
- Purchasing a child from their legal guardian (usually parents) before they reach adulthood (varying from country to country, usually between 18-21).
- Renting a person, a normal person signs a contract to act as a slave for compensation.

So how would this affect your city? Country? Job? School? Nation? The world? What would happen in a day? A year? 10 years?

There'd be an international population surge as Criminal gangs would create baby farms out of brothels, yet for the Citizenry of the world we could almost have a true utopia and world peace.

However will there be laws dedicated top the Humane rights of the slaves?
And will you have educated slaves, like Doctors engineers etc?

They probably wouldn't call it slavery here in America just to keep the African American population from flipping shit.

I would say criminal gangs are more inclined to step up their human trafficking rather than becoming breeders. To get a fully grown slave that is an optimal worker would take 20 years or so, where as you could kidnap someone and give them a month training or so and they would do fine.

I imagine that the first large scale slave breeding facilities would be privately owned, probably funded by venture capitalists. 20 years is quite a while to wait for a pay-out, but once that time hits you keep raking in the money at large volumes.

However considering the demand for slaves and the time that it would take to produce them in a factory setting, I would imagine that purchasing poor people would come first. It would be cheaper and faster.

But let's not just consider that aspect, I expect there would be considerable advances in cheap food and living costs. We would probably see a replacement food "gruel" that contains all the necessary vitamins and minerals to sustain and grow a person, and probably some optimization across the board - this could provide a huge boost to dietitians, educators and all kinds of professionals associated and involved with a child maturing to an adult.

Hm yeah, for most countries slavery is a far distant memory all but forgotten. But in USA it was quite recent.

I would imagine that USA would have quite a moral dilemma placed before them, but I have faith that they would overcome such qualms in the name of profit.

Let's think about other countries too - for example most countries in South America and south-east Asia have strong human trafficking enterprises already, so they would naturally become hotbeds of activity for slave-trading. 1st world nations would milk 3rd world nations dry via the trafficking networks.

The humans will be divided to two kinds, slaves and those who are the "master race", protected by money from enslavement.
The human rights will exist for the first few years (kidnap, rape, murder will be forbidden), but then vanish after some time, as the price of the human soul lowers and lowers, a thing that will be abused by the master race who will freely control the slave population, a thing that will lead to the opening of gladiator arenas, prostitution houses, prevertedness and so on..
Slave revolt against the master race is impossible because they (the second generation of slaves) will think that that their enslavement is righteous, and would not know what a free life is and thus never aim to be free.

BTW: @Will it be OK with you if I would make some mind-storming threads, if have some ideas myself.

Well,

Something interesting to note is thus: All the greatest empires in the history of mankind, were built on the backs of slaves....intresting huh?

Why was this? well....

- Recuded labour costs allowed them to build larger/cheaper armies, larger cities, roads/bridges etc

In short: The suffering of the few led to the prosperity of the many

However towards the end of the 18th century, and early 19th century. Governments etc began to think in a NEW way. They suddenly began to realise that as all humans are born equal, we must all live equal. Why did they think this? well, As you all know....."tree hugging sells" if a government preaches equality/prosperity/...FREEDOM...the masses eat it up! they love it! ant get enough of it in fact, as its still prevalent today!

-------------------

So, what could modern slavery DO for us?

well in THEORY.....a better work force, reduced labour costs etc we'd bring back that old "the few must suffer for the many to prosper"

BUT who says the slaves will be suffering? the idea is that one person can OWN another, if we reintroduced this, we would to so with RULES.LAWS regarding it. To help better protect the slaves from harm....

------------------

Well that's all i got so far, ill post again if i have anything further to ad to the discussion.

Well,I dont really see the need of Slaves in the world, unless it is to clean up a house etc,but there is already something exactly like that lol
After the machines began to produce our food, build our houses and create the roads, there wasnt all that much utility to slaves...

Intellectual Exercise is an awesome idea man.

Unless the people themselves consent to becoming slaves, duck that. I don't think anybody would use any legal slave-trading/buying/selling systems, even if all the countries in the world come to a consensus that it's acceptable to purchase and use slaves legally. Not only does the idea of having slaves infringe on what most people would consider moral, but they would be taking away a lot job opportunities from otherwise perfectly qualified people that would actually be paid fairly (probably resulting in a lot of poverty). It's hard enough to get a job nowadays even without slaves :P
