GOONHAVEN SERVERS SHUT DOWN.

For all things AoS!

So let me get this straight, the admin of GH-servers went full butt hurt, started spamming something somewhere (IRC i assume?), got muted, went berserk and spammed more, called names on stack, got banned for it and shut down the servers becourse of it? I don't know what happened, i'm only assuming. But what i've read and heard, the dude has serious attitude problems. "If i can't have it my way, no one will have it!!"

All i have to say is: Nothing of value was lost. GH servers were the ones to play when all the good ones were full or down. The average player of GH is a 10 year old CoD kid running around spraying and praying, and calling everyone capable of headshotting people a hacker. New servers will be hosted, this changed absolutely nothing.

Did you even read the post on the GH forums? There was no spamming at all. Also, what nearly everyone here seems to ignore is this: the servers were NOT shut down because of the incident in IRC. Thalagyrt has several more issues with the game, the incident was just the nail in the coffin, so to speak. Also there was no spamming, idk where you heard/saw that. Where does "If i can't have it my way, no one will have it!!" come from? Try reading what actually happened first.

And yes, something of value was lost. 3 excellent servers were lost. Nearly everything you've said here is just plain wrong.

Pretty much quoting my post in the thread:

We can't easily take on board 'we have our heads up our asses' (and many variations presented in several of the posts being made), so in order to opinions that we may actually find helpful, I have created a google form for people to present their problems in detail and suggest solutions.

This form is for those who have issues with the community/game development/forum&irc staff and wish to express them in a reasonable manner. The 'Forum account' field is completely optional, if this form element is not filled, I will have no way of knowing who you are, since all I see is timestamp + the responses placed in the fields.

We want to provide something good, but we cannot do it without proper user input.

Yes, i read it.

There was no spamming at all.

As i said, i wasn't there. The situation being what it is i am forced to go on other peoples stories of the situation.

Also, what nearly everyone here seems to ignore is this: the servers were NOT shut down because of the incident in IRC. Thalagyrt has several more issues with the game, the incident was just the nail in the coffin, so to speak.

Yes, i know it isnt only about that. But this being the straw that broke the camels back is considered the reason of the shut down by my standards. There was a lot more to it.

Also there was no spamming, idk where you heard/saw that.

This thread.

Where does "If i can't have it my way, no one will have it!!" come from?

If i understood everything correctly, the argument was about Thalagyrt suggesting something and Stack slamming it down, correct?

And yes, something of value was lost. 3 excellent servers were lost.

Matter of opinion, dear sir. If someone found the completely bare and flat maps and immature playerbase & moderators appealing, who am i to judge?

Just want to point for the record; I'm on no-ones side. This whole scenario is of two immature people high on power fighting over things that in the last case are Ben's to deside. If even half of the things i have heard of both parties are true, i'm suprised if they aren't underage.

Wow, I'm surprised anyone actually cared enough to comment about Goon Haven leaving, even if they were negative comments. I'd much rather have people saying, "I'm glad that they're leaving" rather than "wtf is goon haven?!?" Goon Haven has always been detached from the AoS community. There just wasn't much of a connection. We've always had our own regulars who pretty much played strictly on our servers. Now that we're leaving, I hope they find a new home at Minit US2 instead of leaving as well.

It's been a good run, guys. We've hosted servers for Ace of Spades longer than any other game that I know Goon Haven has hosted (well, after Tribes 2, that is). I wish the best for our regulars and our departing staff, and I hope that we won't be forgotten, even if the only thoughts that exist of us are negative ones. :)

I have nothing but fond memories of Goon Haven, asides from the recent debates with Thal which were generally rather destructive than useful for the mostpart.
While I think the closure was unnecessary and only hurtful to those who enjoyed your servers, I respect that it is your decision.

I would very much like to see more opinions said through the questionnaire I just posted, for those who have any problems with staff/forums/dev etc: http://goo.gl/2Sxqr

Sad to see my favorite servers go in a way like this. In case you're gonna quit the community altogether, good luck with your future endeavors, Tocksman.

At the rate it's taking the game won't even be remotely playable by 2k15. Billions of bells and whistles are apparently higher on Ben/Mat's list than having a playable base to attach them to.

Its a real disappointment to see the server go. After all, constant servers are just as important as the games they run on.

Basically Thal's argument, in his own words:
This has to do with a lot more than just our chat today. I know you like to think of things in terms of small things instead of getting the big picture, so let me try laying this out for your simple little mind.

See, I refuse to support you out of principle. By continuing to host AoS, when you guys start charging for it, I will be helping drive money to someone like you, who I find morally bankrupt. Completely inept. Completely wrong for handling a community. I refuse to be any part of you guys making money.

I was like you, once. Except, I was in a position over a community that was about 50x the size of anything you'll ever see. The difference between you and I is that when people tell me I'm wrong about how I handle things, I listen, and I take it to heart, instead of assuming I'm always right like you do. When the community over there called me out on being a total badmin, I started doing a lot of inner reflection, realized that in fact, I was a TOTAL BADMIN, and I resigned for the better of the community. If you were a good person, you would resign RIGHT NOW, for the betterment of the AoS community. But you're not. You're a power hungry asshole who gets off on exerting himself over other people. You're the worst kind of person. You'd rather retain your power than do what's right for AoS. And for that, your shitty game is doomed.

Stacks's:
Thalagyrt and I were discussing the issue(s) with the master server. I was trying to explain that most of the issues could be easily mitigated, as I've discussed possible solutions with Ben before. The problem is that it goes beyond technical/financial reasons and was privately discussed with Ben (and other staff company). There are other factors besides those mentioned, which are up to Ben to discuss to the public, not me.

I repeat, the solution I was referring to -was not technical- and furthermore, Thalagyrt had no idea what I was referring to, but insisted on acting like he did and continued arguing, eventually leading me to mute him. Instantly he pm'ed me : http://pastebin.com/Uq0JBGGp

The reason for the ban was the PM, not what happened in the channel. The mute was all but 4 hours. Many people have had much longer and have waited them out.

It's not about "I'M THE BOSS, YOU BE QUIET". It's about stopping a pointless, petty argument in it's tracks.

Also apparently Ben does still use HostGator.

However, this is an important event that will determine the future between moderator-playerbase confrontations. As the community grow more of these will be apparent, turning the AOS community into a constant battle. Somehow I feel like this situation could have gone elsewhere had proper action been take by bcoolface and tgm.
But there's no use crying over spilled milk. We should regard this as a lesson.

I couldn't think of something original to say but here goes...

I'm gonna miss the GoonHaven servers, my best moments in AoS's were in GoonHaven. The admins were amazing, the players (well, some) were a pleasure to play with and overall, it was an amazing experience. Although the shut down of GoonHaven didn't have to happen, I respect the decision.

Hm, Stack seems to be the adult in all of this. Though both sides have faults, Insults will never get you anywhere.

Just because you not getting what you want, that does not mean you have to right to start a massive argument and rip the AoS community. If the game goes downhill after goonhaven closing down and this topic then dont expect us to be nice when you return to the community. If you think you got numbers on your side then your wrong because there are other good servers out there like Aloha and Minit. Just stop being babies and shut the .... up and get over it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and what is your problem with stack??

Don't double post, consider this a warning. ~Doc

Yes, yes it does. He can say whatever he wants about the community, and as for the servers, they're his. He can do whatever he wants to.

The phrase "when you return" seem a bit presumptuous. As for the comparisons, you're implying that every server has the exact same playing experience. Goon Haven's closing has had an effect, no matter how minor or major it may be.
