I joined an the 2nd day of its release when it first started getting posted all over /v/.
I remember nobody really knew exactly what was going on since it was so new, and everyone was running around half confused, and you were always scared as duck whenever you heard that "tok tok tok tok" down below you. you'd be walking along and suddenly some grenades would fly over the hill and next thing you knew you'd be crouching in a trench bewildered with 2 health left, hoping to god that the enemy doesn't run by, find you cowering and kill you. I remember walking through a tunnel for the first time. lawdy, I was scared as duck. I don't recall the server, since I tried so many before being able to find one. I remember it took me a while to be able to aim well, especially since I first started with a laptop trackpad. That prepared me well for when I got it on my desktop though.
later you started learning the ropes, learned to jump out of water, how to make camo bunkers and bridges, and how to use teamwork to gain advantages. started helping your team erect huge castles and roads to travel on (since you needed that without auto-climb. god I hate auto-climb.) The whole experience was greatened by all the threads on /v/ that were filled with propaganda for both teams, and comics that made fun of each team.
That was the real AoS experience. I literally played for about 7 hours straight on my first day of playing (granted, 2 hours of that was probably filled with trying to actually get into a server.) I feel bad for anyone who didn't get to experience the game in this prime moment, before hacking and griefing was even a problem since it was so new.
Also, started on green, and will forever play green.
