"Pay 2 Win" models usually result in community backlash.

Maybe it could be like Minecraft. MC has Classic, which is just an older version of the game that you can play for free. Then there's the main, still developed version that you have to buy.
Pros:
*People might find the game, play the old version, and want to buy the full one
*People who don't want to pay still get to play
Cons:
*Lots of people won't buy the full one because there's the free one

That's actually not a bad idea. Not bad at all.

I just hope, however it ends up, that I can still play LAN. But I don't think charging for the game will maximize profit.

I think a really strategic balance has to be made. The most popular option will probably be a one-off fee.

The balance needs to be to make it low enough that people will be willing to pay, but high enough to make money. Personally I would say between £3-5 being the optimal place.

Along with this, a demo version might be good, just so people can play it for a start, so they know if they want to buy or not. Very few people will want to buy without having played the game at all. This could possibly be time-limited or feature limited, such as only certain guns, no blocks/spade etc.

However, as I have said for a bit now, the game needs mass advertising first. Social media, gaming websites, and all importantly, word of mouth. The community needs to take part in this just as much as those in charge. Tell all your friends, e-mail the gaming websites, post it on every forum you use (in the right section ofcourse). Hell, simply post about how awesome the game is on FB. The more users there are, the less Ben will need to charge for the game, benefiting the effort put into advertising it.

That would get too annoying, just put ads on the site and in the forums.

It's a shame that the opengl client (and eventually the game) is going to cost money. The new client is nice, but I won't be buying anything. While getting money from your game is a good way to move forward, there just isn't enough to convince people to buy it. You shouldn't charge money for an unfinished game.

Well, once the OpenGL client appears, I expect we'll be seeing many more features and less bugs within the game. This could be both a benefit and a loss to the Ace of Spades community.

I would only buy it if it is less then $7. More then that is too much for a shooter without a fricking handgun. And 4 guns (including RPG).

Ads should have already been on the forums. Even with buy2play there should be ads.

So it might cost a piddling 10 bucks to support the developers who have been doing all this for free and suddenly your life is ruined and your have "lost your happiness"?

Really?

I still enjoy my playing with Ace of Spades. But it's not going to be the same once it begins to cost money. It's going to be like a whole new game, which I why I was happier with version 0.70 rather than 0.75. Ace of Spades makes me happy when I play it, don't get me wrong.

The only thing that hinders me from paying is the fact that I do not own a credit card/paypal account.
To a Physicist, white and black is the presence and absence of color.
To a Fine Artist, white and black are just shades and tints of color.
To a Painter, any paint that you could get into a can is a color.
THIS color, on the other hand, is #b4d455.

Many forums I am on have "donator" accounts. If you donate you get special features such as: larger sigs, unlimited PMS, custom messages under avatar, etc. On one forum I am on it is a 10$ fee for one year and if you dont want to be again you dont have to. You get the "perks" and Ben gets some well deserved profit. It also wouldnt effect the player base as it would be by choice:)

If it costs, so be it. Have you seen how many servers we have? Now take the amount of succeeding (always full) servers and divide it by oh say 3. That should give you how many people will pay. The rest will either be on AoS classic if made. If no classic is made, divide the original number by 2. Estimation. Huzza.
