It's 'kay. I'd rather have my '62 or '95 too. Just brought up the points to show it's not a simple matter.

Okay, everyone is really gonna hate me now, but I'm for the M16.

inb4razorisanidiot

Why?
The M16 has much better reliability, a great firing speed, and has a far better range than an AK47.
And most of you probably haven't even fired a weapon before. And for all those CoD players out there, what the hell is wrong with burst firing? Burst firing with the M16 almost gives you pitch-perfect accuracy and lack of recoil for all those less maniacal firefights.

So that was just my little rant there. Oppose and correct if you must.

No it doesn't. You can do pretty much anything to the AK and it will operate, you need to TRY to get it jammed. And even if you somehow manage to do that, cleaning it is rediculously easy and fast. Even a child could use the AK.

So? M16 is more lighter. A child could use an M16 more easily. And anyway, a child wouldn't give a damn about cleaning their weapons (not saying you wouldn't clean your gun).

More reliable? That is true in clean, urban areas without any dust or water that could jam the gun. Doesn't look like the US is going to get into a war with a 1st world country any time soon. The AK-47 is known for its endurance in battle. I saw a TV show once where they basically tortured the gun to see if it would jam.

Do you know what reliability means?

We comparing them in a video-game way, or a real-life way?

In Counter Strike (or at least Global Offensive), the AK is the worst reliable weapon (apart from the M-Something the Counter Terrorists get) for Terrorists. I mean, I get more kills with the Galil then the AK, for some reason

Reliability means that a gun with high reliability will not jam in worse conditions, and will jam less frequently.

EDIT: Wait, we are comparing the early models of the AK-47 and either the XM16E1 or the M16A1, right?

mikuli owns a gun.

Anyone else here owns a gun?
To a Physicist, white and black is the presence and absence of color.
To a Fine Artist, white and black are just shades and tints of color.
To a Painter, any paint that you could get into a can is a color.
THIS color, on the other hand, is #b4d455.

I'd love to own one, but up here in the north getting a gun is rediculously difficult and expensive, and you can only get permission to a handgun, shotgun or a hunting rifle. Anything automatic is banned.

Derailed :(
Here a thing: i'm commuist and i love AKs. Vietnam still use the AK series :)
Here's a disadvantage and advantage for AK-47 by me(no Wikipedia s**t):
Pros:
Easy to maintain, clean and stuff
    Cheap
    Easy to use
    Powerful(enough)
    Reliable
Cons:
    Short range
    Crazy recoil
    Low accuracy

While those cons sometimes cause deatyh and stuff, but i still love AKs. :D

I guess one of the reasons I don't really like AK-47 is that I'm South-Vietnamese.

Hard, but not impossible and not really that expensive. Hook up with your local reservist organisation for SRA courses / range days and build up the hours in the span of a year or two. Going for the permit to purchase and own a firearm from the police department costs 72€ - it's dirt cheap, compared to the prices of decent firearms anyway. All hobbies cost money, some more than the others.

And no, I do not own, nor do I have the permit for a firearm, I'm still going through the above mentioned process. I'm generally interested in firearms, and I've served a year in the FDF as a conscript.

Some things to read, if you're interested (in Finnish)

http://www.reservilaisliitto.fi/jasenyh ... piirilista (check if your local organization offers range days / SRA courses)
