How To Remove Viruses For FREE

Postby FaZe » Fri Apr 06, 2012 4:59 pm

A virus can destroy your computer if left unattended. Fortunately, there are many programs that get rid of them for good. Unfortunately, those many programs all cost around $100.

So, here's my tip: http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-A ... tag=button

Simply download, install, and scan your entire hard-drive whenever you want. If any threats are detected, you can remove them. No surveys, credit cards, or impossible-to-read captchas required. The version that I've linked is the free Lite version, but it doesn't have a time limit, and deletes malware with ease. The paid one isn't any better, so don't waste your 30 bucks.

(A lot of you probably already know about Malwarebytes. This tutorial is for tehnoobzorz.)

Haven't tried it, but if it's from cnet/download.com, then I trust it.

This only works on windows...

While Malewarebytes is amazing, some viruses automatically shut down [almost] everything except for explorer.exe (Im looking at you AVProtection) so you cant run maleware bytes. what you do then, is rightclick the taskbar to quickly launch the task manager and as fast as you can, go to the processes tab before the virus shuts it down. next time you open it, it will already be in the processes tab. look for a process that is not familiar, or looks like the viruses name(if your good with computers, you should already be familiar with your processes list). keep starting the task manager until you see it, this is probably the virus. once you know where it is, start task manager and try to rightclick the process and click the "end process" button as fast as you can. this step is can be very difficult. it is much easier to end the process when the computer first starts because the computer will start off slow, but then speed up. when it is in such a slow state, it is easier to start taskmanager before the virus. which means you can get the process right when it apears. The virus will often try to start again, if this happens, right click the "end process tree" button instead of "end process". but dont do this if you need to manually track down the virus. instead, rightclick the viruses process and click "open file location" at the top of the list. Then quickly click the "end process tree" button, but this does give the virus a larger chance at starting again, so be carefull. now that you have the files, you can delete them, but make sure you try to delete any files associated with the virus too, unless you know they are ifected, do researchto make sure your not deleting something important.

Note: you could just start malewarebytes in safe mode, but where is the awesomeness in that?

I learned all this from alot of expierence from fixing my moms computer, shes sutch a noob, but so am i because i did it for free. Hope this helps people some day :D

I do like Malwarebytes, it surprised me when it detected something Avast and Kaspersky could not.

If you can access CMD and know the process name of the virus (most virus devs aren't too smart), you can do "taskkill /im processname.exe".

^AVAntivirus shuts down all active windows, and closes them in usually a second, and i cant see many people typing that in a second, just 3 clicks is all it takes with taskmanager.

While doing some experimentation, I loaded a virus into a computer. With the fact that Internet was restricted due to it, I used my tech savvy (Wii) to search and destroy (open task monitor and look for the specific part, then terminate it). Computer temp-fix, load antivirus, day is saved before they get home and kill me. Yay.

On that note I'm going to put that on my laptop, seeing the testimonials.

Virus removal on the cheap:

First try to prevent getting virus in the first place. Second if you on windows and have a legit copy download and install windows security essentials. It's free you dont need to pay for it.

If you already have a virus. Malwarebytes is the go to options. If you cant open it because the virus is blocking it. Turn off the computer and reboot in safe mode. To get to safe mode turn on the computer and start spamming f8. You will come to a screen that ask something like start windows in safe mode and a lot of other options. Choose safe mode with networking. Open malwarebytes and let it work its magic.

If that doesnt work try combofix.

After you remove your viruses go ahead and download ccleaner and run both the cleaner and the registry tool. This step wont remove viruses but will get rid of so much useless crap on your computer.
