Can YOU solve this?

Postby Defaulter » Tue Feb 07, 2012 1:24 pm

Your task is to transport water uphill, WITHOUT using an electrical pump, suction, cups, buckets or other cup like structures. You may also NOT touch the water with your body and the device MUST be technologically feasible and buildable. ALSO must be of a mechanical nature.

Here's the catch.....

You MAY NOT use Archimede's Screw...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archimedes'_screw

Post your design below :P

Before we start- can I just ask: Is there an actual right answer to this riddle?

Not going to img tag it, it's big.

Anyway, a big light/heat source makes the water evaporate. Okay, so now we can use suction power, right?

Some form of fan pushes the water vapor into a large basin. The cool water and water vapor interact, and condensates. The water has been transferred. Or, worse comes to worse, we can use a strong magnet to propel the water vapor into the basin if it's already condensed (water is diamagnetic)

Not conventional, but it works. i guess.

i win~

you put a tube into the water, the you heat the water so it becomes steam
the steam travels up the tube and cool down
the steam turns into water and falls down into the bucket :D

Other then using steam,

It sppears there is no other possible way of completing this task ^3^

Here you go. The Circular thingies are heat makers. They are just above a layer of smooth coper, a great conductor. To the left is a compressor to make the piece of copper cold. This makes the steam back into water again. This method also cleans the water and makes it safe for drinking too. Original design.

Edit:
I've made another one that is much simpler...

Edit2:
Whoops, doesn't matter about edit1, that breaks a couple of rules.

Easy peezy

1. Pour Liquid Nitro, or Dry Ice over the water cuasing it to freeze

2. hammer pins into the ice and attach ropes to the pins.

3. using pulley's and Rod levers haul the ice up the hill.

And without the use of steam.

Another method...

1.Bind the water with something like cement and repeat the methods used above.

The water wont be good for anything but I have technically moved the water.
