Indentifying good players

Postby mrsnail » Mon Apr 23, 2012 6:45 pm

I've always wondered: How can be a player a good player? Do I have to have the most kills, or do I have to build strategically the best structures, tunnels, towers, etc. I want to hear what do you think of this, because I think myself to be a good player, I just want to improve myself :)
If you see me, kill me. You will do good for all your teammates. My IGN is Sgt. Potato

A good player knows their role and is willing to play others if necessary to win, whatever they might be. If the team needs snipers, go snipe. If the team needs intel defense, get a tower up and play defense. Getting all of those kills means jack-shit if the other team rapes you over an over.

A great player recognizes these things and does them w/o having to be told.

Someone who plays to win. Don't forget, people who just get kills are in fact contributing to your team. If all of you ran head-on into the enemy spawn, you'd all die.

Players who capture the intel are ussually the best.
That's just a generalisation though.

A great player will also suicide change themselves if it mean making a distraction to help another player grab the inel.

Remember, there is no "I" in team.

A great player realizes what to do and how to do it.

A good player kills and never gets killed.
To a Physicist, white and black is the presence and absence of color.
To a Fine Artist, white and black are just shades and tints of color.
To a Painter, any paint that you could get into a can is a color.
THIS color, on the other hand, is #b4d455.

The best players I have seen do a number of things.
1. See you fractionally before you see them
2. Usually get their first shot on target
3. Are able to storm enemy bases and capture intel, or manage to hold an area or the map (always best to guard a good player's back to check for newly spawning enemies)
4. Appear in places you may not expect (mainly referring to wall duels)

<@mikuli> the bad part in this plan is that it involves an already busy tea-drinking scone chomper with a monocle

If you want to better your skills, then practice helps. Also, believing in your that your shot will hit the enemy. I have many friends that take literally 10 minutes to take a shot. This shows that they have a lack of confidence in their ability.

If you think that its gonna hit, take the shot. If you miss, you miss. If you hit, then yippee. If you don't take the shot, in some way, you will regret it. Trust your ability, and you can instinctively make head shots. Practice makes perfect.

Also, to quote The Operator, there is no "I" in team. Working with others automatically gives you an advantage over lone people. There are many players who can take an entire team on, but teamwork can help you defeat even the best. Believe me, if your entire team works together, you can do things that would be next to impossible for a loner.

Also, it helps if you play with good players. You dont get any better by playing with noobs. You automatically perform better, in anything, if you are given healthy competition. Beating the sh*t out of noobs may give your ego a boost, but you wont get any better by doing so.
