Goonhaven - Terrible Admins. What is to be done?

Postby ErwinRumble » Sun Apr 22, 2012 2:13 am

I am now banned from GH (probably the most fun server on AOS) because I wouldn't "drop the subject" of someone blatantly using a wall-hack and/or aimbot.

Keep in mind this guy was racking up a KDR upwards of 20, power-drilling through thick walls to hit players and hitting you pretty much anywhere you stuck your head out.

So, tell me, why should I drop the subject when there is an unfair player running amok and they simply silence (they previously muted and kicked me) people who keep on complaining? They only dismissed my complaints and reasoning as false accusations and continued to get their panties in a bunch anytime I said "Oh look, X is still hacking away". Was it too much to ask to spectate the guy, check his KDR, or... I don't know... SWITCH TEAMS? I was banned just as I was about to ask them.

This is not the only incident. Last week, someone built a sky fort and kept on complaining to the admins to keep away the griefers. They did nothing. But, of course the minute he says "Do your fucking job" he get's muted. They continually muted him every time he tried to rejoin, so even though they were active he was not able to tell them that there where griefers going batshit crazy on his structure. His amazing fort fell and 0 fucks were given by the admins.

So, why are so many admins operating with a stick up their ass?

Goonhaven is pretty much one of the most heavily modded servers around, considering the amount of griefers and aimpotters there.
To a Physicist, white and black is the presence and absence of color.
To a Fine Artist, white and black are just shades and tints of color.
To a Painter, any paint that you could get into a can is a color.
THIS color, on the other hand, is #b4d455.

It's not about under-staffing. It's about the actual behavior of the admins.

I guess it's because they face blatantly false hacking accusations so much their judgement is too blurred.

Hey, Erwin. You were banned for a day, not permanently. I'm currently looking into the issue.

Also, just a note, admin investigations of someone who is aimbotting are not public. If they were, it would totally defeat the purpose of investigating them, as they'd likely stop upon seeing that an admin is watching them play.

Alright, here are my thoughts on the issue:

Yes, we face blatantly false accusations every day, and the process to investigate a hacker is an outright tedious one as well.

When you were banned/muted/kicked, there was only one admin on and several griefing/hacking accusations flying around. We bust our asses (saying that we "work very hard" doesn't even begin to describe it) every day looking for griefers and hackers. Plus, we're currently a bit understaffed. V379 was trying to investigate all the votekicks. However, there's only so much one admin can do at a time.

V379 asked you to stop (he was investigating other hackers and griefers at the time) and even said that he'd kick you if you didn't. Well, you didn't, so he muted you. You came back and didn't stop, so he kicked you. You came back again and didn't stop, so he banned you. What's completely ironic is that V379 probably would've gotten around to properly investigating ramon if you had just listened to him and let him do his job. The point here is, if an admin asks you nicely to do something, you really should obey. If you believe that their decision is erroneous, bring it up on our forums http://goonhaven.org/. We're a reasonable bunch and we really do take complaints seriously. There have been a few times where our administration has admitted that we were the ones in the wrong.

Also, please don't grief someone's building just because you think that they're "a dumbass" and then proceed to call them names to escalate the situation.

EDIT: I hope you decide to come back to Goon Haven after your ban is through. You seem concerned about the well-being of our server and I would hate to see you go.

I'm just curious as to who said "Aimbotter" was. There's more than a few people I suspect that are smart about their hacking, that GH either is oblivious to or wants to keep on the hush-hush.

The guy was indeed cheating as we later found out.

V379 has been an admin at Goon Haven for over a year now. He's not a bad guy, he was just being pulled in every direction at once with no one to really help him.
