Tips for Noobs?

Postby Jokester » Thu Jul 19, 2012 4:03 am

Hi there, I'm Joker, a newbie player here (literally started today but am already having tons of fun) and I was wondering if any of the veteran players (or people who have a decent amount of experience) could leave some tips for me to improve my game play so I'm not a hindrance to my team. Thank you for your time.

No I didn't, if I'm not supposed to then it can be taken off. I just figured since its about playing the AoS game I thought it would be fine. AoS Discussion = Discussion about the game which can be interpreted as playing the game and how to do so without messing your team up. I'd say its a pretty honest mistake. And I posted it because I wanted to learn some tips and or tricks about how to play the game a little better, I got yelled at in the first server I hopped in because I wasn't playing well enough so I hopped on here and figured I'd ask a few questions. Didn't think I'd be berated for it.

I honestly never knew that you couldn't post a thread asking for a few playing tips, but here's some advice :

  • Constantly move from one spot to another, you don't want to get caught.
  • Constantly crouch when behind a 2-block high wall or opening, and move side-to-side, as it's harder for someone to hit you.
  • Aim quickly, make sure you hit them before they hit you, orient yourself as fast as possible.
  • When in open-fire, and there is no cover around, stay mobile, and look on your map or hit-marker to see where the shots are coming from to counter them.

I can't think of anything else, but this is mostly what I do, put them to good use!

So it's similar to playing Team Fortress 2 then? Thanks, I'm trying to get a microphone and get involved with clans and what not. I started learning quite a bit from experience after going through a 2 hour play through.

It's not really similar to Team Fortress, meaning that there are no classes or hats. :P

I would recommend getting a custom ironsight or scope, something as simple as a red dot in the middle of the screen. This will help you see everything while aiming at things, instead of having something blocking your eyesight. The game is pretty straightfoward, there isn't really something EXTRA or so to speak that you will learn with time, only your reflexes and aim will improve with time, your intelligence too. (Deciding what to do before running to the shooting zone, when to, how, from where, etc)

Make sure the sight is big, when the sight is closer, it can be easier to hold down.

Well ugot stole most of my tips =P but among all these, when using grenades hold the button you use to fire for about 2 seconds, then jump and let go, travels further and dosent give a enemy time to react - Note, grenades don't damage if it explodes in the water, so try to explode it over their head for a shrapnal kills. Also, this is just a personal preferance but when in a tower, go for the middle floor, and do corner shots, most people look at the top first, and look for holes, corner shooting makes you harder to see.

Try to design a method of killing people. I made mine to confuse and both surprise people, earning a kill and whatnot.

For example, mine is to jump + crouch shooting in mid-air. You may say that this is something many players do, but each of them, as do I, have a different way of doing it.

I know Tank, Mikuli, tGM, and etc have the technique of finding where the enemies are at and coming up for two seconds, no less, getting the kill.

Yeah My reflexes in game is starting to improve after I've played hours upon hours of it. I think I've only clocked in 5 hours, but that was only on the 24/7 Hallway Server. I had to stop because there weren't as many people on it. Thanks for the tips Doc.

Yeah I've designed a pretty good surprise method for the map Hallway. Just go all the way to the right and into the water. Dig a straight tunnel through to the other side. From there crouch and make your way to the back of the plat form and get to shooting. The enemy team assumes you got in from the top or one of the other tunnels and never really explores going to the right or left to look for the tunnel you just built. If you build a tunnel on the left and right from the start, wait for the enemy team to have enough time to build a stair case to the top level so that they think you're coming from there and then strike alternating between left and right tunnel. Its earned me loads of kills. Also, I build decent bunkers and I have relatively good aim and recoil control with the SMG (which I found a reskin for the M4 with Acog scope) so I attack from cover relatively well. I dunno if that's a method of killing people, but I've been improving my performance by doing those things.

Thanks! I was actually checking out the tower type maps recently and I hadn't developed my own method of sneakily gaining the edge. And the grenade information was also really helpful, I only used grenades before hand to clear out a fox hole or bunker that was relatively close or a last ditch attempt when I don't have time to reload.

Thanks for the link, it was very helpful ^^ I liked the Engineering part, some of the buildings I discovered as useful on my own because of experimentation (and playing the same map for hours on end).

Spider towers are to intel defense as condoms are to sex. They both keep it protected and safe as long as you dont screw up.

Basically you elevate the intel on(i prefer to do a 2x2 tower for the "base") tower, then you make more towers surrounding it and connect it. The idea is itll be a pain in the ass to destroy because you have to destroy the base to ALL the towers to knock it down. Eventually the only way to actually grab the intel would be to make a tower of your own and climb up, allowing you to simply shoot them as they do it. Like it said it could keep it protected, but if you dont watch it or you build it incorrectly (even shorter than the short example shown for example) itll have been for nothing.

May I ask what server you play on? Is it aloha Pinpoint?

If yes, then I can give a few great suggestions; don't throw grenades at your own buildings.

Some other great suggestions:

Don't build super high walls (in most cases), it simply doesn't help anyone. Sure you can't be fired at, but you cannot fire back.
Set the game sensitivity to 6, instead of 5. This will greatly increase accuracy. (At least, for me :p)

Best way to boost up your aim is using rifle. It will be hard at the beginning, but later on you will see increase of your accuracy.
